To escape the heat of August in Kefalonia, we decided to head North, and Up: to the mountains of Epirus.
Our journey was uneventful, (ignoring the one time we got lost and almost ended up in Albania) and we finally found our way to Monodendri, a village very close to the Vikos gorge. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vikos_Gorge
The landscape is stunning, and the air – as we had hoped – was refreshing. We went swimming in some natural pools that were freezing cold, and it is the first time I have ever wanted a jumper in August…bliss.
